Dense Evergreen with Classic Garden Appeal
The Graham Blandy Boxwood Shrub is a sturdy and elegant evergreen shrub known for its dense, compact growth and small, glossy dark green leaves. This variety is prized for creating formal hedges, borders, and foundation plantings, as well as for shaping into topiaries. It grows at a moderate pace, making it easy to maintain and prune to your desired form. Thriving in full sun to partial shade, the Graham Blandy Boxwood offers reliable year-round greenery that enhances the structure and beauty of any landscape.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: To plant the Graham Blandy Boxwood Shrub, dig a hole three times the width of the root ball and deep enough for the plant to sit level with or slightly above ground. Mix native soil with rich gardening soil for nutrients. If using clay soil, add pine bark mulch for better drainage.
Gently separate any bound roots and place the plant in the hole with the top of the root ball level with the soil. Backfill without covering the root ball. This boxwood thrives in well-drained soil and prefers 4-6 hours of morning sunlight. Space plants 3-4 feet apart to allow for natural growth. Protect from strong winter winds. After planting, soak the plant with a hose to hydrate it and settle the soil and mulch.
2. Watering: Add 3 to 4 inches of mulch around your plant to retain moisture, avoiding the root ball to ensure oxygen access.
3. Fertilizing: In early spring, fertilize the plant with a slow-release, balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can result in excessive, weak growth that makes the plant more vulnerable to diseases.
4. Pruning: The Graham Blandy has a low spreading growth, making it ideal for mass plantings. Occasional trimming helps maintain its shape and promotes denser foliage, and it’s best to prune in late winter or early spring before new growth.
