Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and plant at the same depth it was in the pot. Space plants about 12-15 inches apart for optimal growth. Water thoroughly after planting.
2. Watering: During the first growing season, keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Once established, Forged by Fire™ Silene is drought-tolerant and requires watering only during prolonged dry spells.
3. Pruning: To encourage bushier growth and continuous blooms, deadhead spent flowers regularly throughout the season. In late fall, trim back the plant to about 4 inches above the ground as the foliage dies back.
4. Fertilizing: In early spring, work fresh compost into the soil or apply an organic fertilizer according to package instructions.
