A Heat-Tolerant Japanese Maple with Fiery Fall Foliage

The Orangeola Weeping Japanese Maple begins the season with bright orange-red new growth that quickly matures into rich burgundy and green by summer. Then, just when you think it can’t get any better, a second flush of vibrant orange growth arrives in fall for a breathtaking multicolor display.

Unlike many other Japanese maples, the Orangeola was made to handle the heat. It’s remarkably tolerant of warmer climates and performs well from Zones 5 through 8. Its graceful, mounding habit makes it an ideal focal point in garden beds, near water features, or in large containers. If you prefer vertical interest, you can stake it to encourage more upright growth.

Part of what makes the Orangeola so beloved is how easy it is to grow. It’s one of the fastest-growing laceleaf maples and requires little pruning or pest control. Its weeping shape develops naturally on its own, and the tree thrives in partial shade with consistent moisture.

The Orangeola Weeping Japanese Maple is a brilliant, low-maintenance way to add dynamic color, texture, and movement to your landscape. Grow yours today!

Planting & Care

Planting: Plant your Orangeola in a spot that receives morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly shallower than its depth. Place the tree so that the root crown is slightly above ground level. Backfill with native soil and water deeply. Mulch 2–3″ around the base to retain moisture, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to help the tree establish a strong root system. Once established, the Orangeola is moderately drought-tolerant but prefers consistently moist soil. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, especially in hot weather.

Fertilization: Feed once in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for trees and shrubs.

Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. In late winter or early spring, remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain a clean structure.
