1. Planting: Plant your Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel in a sunny or shady spot, in moist, well-drained, or loamy soils. Allow enough space for its outward growth, away from other plants. For cooler climates, this plant prefers more sun, while in warmer areas, it prefers to have more shade.
2. Watering: During the first growing season, water deeply and regularly to establish a strong root system. Once established, reduce watering frequency as this plant can tolerate dry shade.
3. Fertilizing: It’s best to fertilize in early spring. This plant is capable of blooming even in heavy shade and is moderately tolerant to salt, but cannot tolerate heavy fertilization.
4. Pruning: If pruning is needed, it’s best to prune after the plant has finished flowering and to use hand pruners. Shearing should be avoided as it can damage the leaves.
