Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with full sun or partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Carefully place the tree into the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil, then backfill with a mix of compost and native soil, then water thoroughly.
2. Watering: Provide consistent moisture during establishment, which can last up to three years. Water deeply twice a week, allowing the top 2″ of soil to dry out between watering sessions. Once established, the tree is somewhat drought-tolerant but will thrive with regular watering during dry spells.
3. Pruning: Prune the Rise ‘N Shine Redbud in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove any dead or damaged branches and thin out crowded areas to improve air circulation. This promotes a healthier tree and can enhance its natural shape.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth. Follow the recommended guidelines for your specific product, adjusting based on the tree’s age and size. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause excessive growth and reduce flowering.
