Sweet, Heart-Shaped Fruit in Spring and Summer

Originating from the lineage of the renowned Mauritius Lychee, the Sweetheart Lychee is a remarkable subtropical evergreen that stands out with its ability to bear fruit at a very young age. This variation of Lychee has a high production of fruit with smaller seeds and juicier flesh than other varieties.

The self-pollinating Sweetheart Lychee boasts a vibrant red, heart-shaped fruit that can be harvested during late spring and summer. The outer shell cracks when fully ripe, signifying the perfect moment to indulge in the uniquely textured, grape-like flesh.

With a delightful rose scent, the Sweetheart Lychee’s flavor is mild and slightly floral, complemented by subtle acidic notes reminiscent of a pear. This makes it an excellent choice for enhancing salads or enjoying fresh, straight from the tree.

Whether planted in a container for a more compact size or in the ground to achieve a larger stature, this tree adapts to various settings. Plus, it’s disease-resistant with low-maintenance care, making it suitable for any level of gardener. Grab your Sweetheart Lychee today!

Pollination Info

Sweetheart Lychees are self-pollinating. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Sweetheart Lychee will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Sweetheart Lychee either in a container or in the ground depending on how big you want it to grow (It will grow in height to 8-10 ft. in a container and 20-30 ft. in-ground). Dig a hole twice the size of your Lychee’s root ball. Plant in well-drained, rich soil and backfill the hole.

Pro tip: Planting on a mound will promote drainage and prevent waterlogged roots.

2. Watering: Water regularly within the tree’s first year of being established. Then, regular watering, especially during fruiting seasons in spring and summer to ensure optimal growth and fruit production.

3. Fertilizing: Container-grown lychees do not require fertilizer but will benefit greatly by spraying liquid phosphorous. Do this during transplantation and annually around September or October.

4. Pruning: Trim any dead branches during winter after the fruit is harvested.

5. Pollination: Because the Sweetheart Lychee is self-pollinating, it can produce fruit on its own.
